Guitar Gods on Musical Monday

October 20, 2008

What really defines a good guitar player is all of course speculative. To me a good guitar player can play the instrument well and if they have emotion behind their craft.

Jimi Hendrix and a soulful smoky sound that skillfully blended blues and rock and roll. Hendrix’s showmanship also made an impression with Americans. From being able to play with his teeth to lighting his guitar on fire.

John Petrucci of Dream Theater is considered the best by many guitar players for two reasons. He can play very fast complicated riffs and never mess up. He also seems very into the songs he plays.

Lastly, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. He’s developed as a musician in the last twenty years. His playing is both better and emotional. Sonic Youth’s music can bring out great shows of emotion in fans.

Those in my own opinion are three great guitar players, not based solely on skill. Emotion is what truly makes a good artist.
What’s your list, and why?
