United States of Tara

January 23, 2009

Fancast is a wonderful thing. I can watch TV on the internet whenever I have time. No more missing shows because I was out seeing friends or whatever. Even better since I’m protesting Comcast and don’t have cable. There’s only a few shows I’m sad I’ll miss but with Fancast I don’t have too anymore!

One of these shows on my very short “Missed Telly” list was the show United States of Tara. A show about a mom with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). Simple enough? Don’t worry it’s a comedy, nothing about gut wrenching abuse, if you want that go watch Lifetime sheesh. Toni Collette does a wonderful job as Tara in the pilot. She plays both a stressed to the max mother and a 15 year old nicely. Kind of makes you wonder how well she’ll pull off the other personalities.

Although “Buck” is amazing.

Written and executive produced by ex sex worker turned media darling Diablo Cody, United States of Tara is funny yet doesn’t gloss over DID or motherhood the way some other sitcoms might. So, Hat’s off to Miss Cody. The big shocker (At least for me!) it was actually created by Steven Spielberg. It has potential to be one of the better shows on TV since 2002.
A realistic family based show with lots of humor and heart.
A+ Showtime.

Thanks for the shoutout! I love United States of Tara! I’m also trying to get in to Secret Diary of a Call Girl (also on Fancast). I’m loving Showtime lately!
